AMK-76 Sharpening Machine — Detailed Review After 11 Months of Use
After almost a year of ownership, the AMK-76 has proven to be a highly capable and well-thought-out sharpening machine, especially for anyone doing consistent work on kitchen knives. I’ve used it across a wide range of steels and price points, and it consistently produces clean, reliable edges.
The included jig shines when you need precise, angle-controlled stropping. It’s slower than freehanding, but it delivers consistency that’s hard to beat, especially for higher-end knives or customers who want uniform results. Belt changes are extremely fast, tracking is excellent, and the reversible belt direction—an underrated feature—is genuinely useful and something you barely see mentioned elsewhere. The included angle finder also makes dialing in your preferred angle surprisingly precise, down to roughly a tenth of a degree.
In terms of durability, the motor housing and base are very solid. The control panel, however, does require some care: don’t reverse direction while the belt is moving, be gentle with the speed dial, and avoid rapid on/off cycling. I made that exact mistake and ended up frying the controller. AMK sent me a brand-new replacement panel at no cost—11 months into ownership—which is the main reason I’m taking the time to leave this review. That level of customer support deserves recognition.
As for performance: with 1" belts, the AMK-76 has all the power you need for sharpening and light grinding. Later in my workflow, I added a magnet-mounted angle guide for high-volume, lower-priority blades. It speeds things up when you’re running batches of cheaper knives, but the jig still produces the best finish when edge quality matters most. If you try to use 2" belts for heavier grinding, you’ll notice the motor’s limits. It can do it, but that’s not the environment where this machine excels.
What sets the AMK-76 apart is its versatility. There are very few belt-sander-style sharpeners offering variable speed, reversible direction, a functional jig, accurate angle measurement, and this level of tracking—especially in such a compact footprint. If space matters, or if you want one machine that can genuinely do a bit of everything, this one ranks near the top.
TL;DR:
A compact, highly versatile sharpening machine with excellent tracking, true angle precision, and standout customer support. Outstanding with 1" belts, great for kitchen knives, and capable of professional consistency—just handle the control panel gently and don’t expect it to replace a full 2" grinder.
4.8 out of 5 stars

I'm not a knife maker , I want a knife sharpener with very specific features. I wanted a variable speed motor , I wanted to be able to set the angle to any angle , I want repeatability. I have multiple sharpeners , for example the Ken Onion edition that sharpener checked all the boxes except that the belts wear out so fast , ridiculously fast. I even have the Tormek , I like the Tormek , and it did give me the sharpness that I wanted but it was very slow , heck I even bought a 1 x 30 belt sander. I didn't want to spend this much money but I couldn't get the results I wanted , the belt sander chewed my knife so fast it was ridiculous. I needed a sander that I could adjust the speed , I tried a voltage regulator on the 1 x 30 that didn't work out. This checks all the boxes , it has a variable speed motor , I can choose 1 x 30 , 1 x 42 or 2 x 42. I just wanted to sharpen my knives but if I should decide to make a business later I know it will serve me well. I gave it a 4.8 because I've figured out an attachment that would improve this ( in the set up speed , I'll have to contact a machinist to make this for me in the mean time I'll make a jig ). There are other belt sander sharpeners out there , some of them seem good , none seem as good as this one. In short I recommend this to anyone. Even though it was expensive , I don't regret spending the money , it is worth it to me.
Excellent Sharpening System

I own a LOT of different knife sharpeners and I can honestly say this is by far the best I’ve ever used. Easy to set up and does a great job in a very short period of time. The tracking system works perfectly and can be fine tuned adjusted. I’m glad I finally pulled the trigger and ordered this sharpener, it makes my knife making so much easier.
